This is one of my favorite pictures of Andrew of all time.
Hope everyone had a great weekend. Conice and I managed to take in a few movies. I saw The Dark Knight on Friday night with Courtney, and Conice went to Mamma Mia with Courtney on Saturday night.
Here’s a shot of Ambarlee with Andrew in his 2007 Halloween costume at Grandpa’s restaurant. He wasn’t in a good mood that day.
Later that same day, it was time for his first haircut, he was much happier after this, and he handled it like a champ.
This picture is from last winter when we visited the Des Moines Botanical Garden.
Today’s pictures are a random bunch.
We’ll start with a picture of Andrew that pretty much shows how he looked when he was sick for a few days last winter.
Here’s a nice shot of Andrew in his playpen. He can now climb in and out his playpen at will.
Last fall, we set Andrew down in a big pile of leaves. This was snapped a few seconds before he threw a fit. Apparently he doesn’t like leaves.
And finally, a nice picture of Grandpa and Andrew around Christmas time.

Today’s pictures are from a Sunday late last December. We wanted to go somewhere to let Andrew get some practice walking (actually running most of the time). But this being Iowa, and last winter being one of the snowiest on record, being outdoors wasn’t a very attractive option.
So we decided to head downtown, and utilize the great skywalk system of Des Moines.

Just look at Andrew’s face… and this is at 9:30 pm, about one and a half hours past the normal bedtime, with a very short nap taken during the day, and after swimming, which usually runs his tank nearly down to empty.
Of course, near the end of the fireworks show, he was sitting with Mommy on the blanket, and abruptly rolled over, only to fall asleep just a few minutes later. He slept through the finale of the show, which ended up much louder than the rest of it.
I must say I’m proud though, not a cry or a tear. It takes more than a multi-colored flash of light or a loud BOOOOOM to get this guy rattled.

Here’s a rundown of Daddy’s first Father’s Day.
7:00 am – Andrew and Mommy wake Dad up to present him with his gifts…a shirt, Simpsons pajama pants, a little frame with pictures of Andrew in it, and a musical Star Wars Card. Cool stuff.
10:00 am – Daddy is allowed to sleep in a little bit today.
10:30 am – Mommy, Daddy, and Andrew are off to run a few errands, and pick up some groceries for cooking out later.
12:30 pm – Everyone’s back home, and it’s time to feed Andrew, and have him take a good nap so he’s not too cranky for the grandparents when they get here later on.
1:30 pm - Daddy mows the yard. And starts to get set up for the BBQ
3:00 pm – Andrew is well rested, so Mommy and Daddy take him to the pool for a little aquatic fun. He loves the lazy river.
5:30 pm – Back home, and showered up, Andrew takes another nap (the pool is quite tiring). Mommy and Daddy prepare Kabobs, baked beans, guacamole dip, and baked potatoes for the BBQ.
6:30 pm- Grandpa and Grandma Hiaring arrive, and everyone hangs out for a while before a massive amount of food is finally ready for the grill. 12 kabobs, loaded with London broil, mushrooms, green and red peppers, onions and tomatoes. It’s way to much food for everyone to eat, but it’s fun to prepare and cook.
7:30 pm – Chow time. Andrew is playing outside in his exersaucer while everyone eats. Greta (Grandpa and Grandma Hiaring’s dog) is allowed to run free in the backyard after we close the gate to the fence, but she’s more interested in hanging out by the table to catch any errant scraps that might fall off.
8:30 pm – Back inside to take care of Andrew, and get him ready for bed. Grandma and Grandpa Hiaring leave to go over to Courtney and Craig’s place, where they are staying.
9:00 pm – Grandpa Carmichael arrives (we knew he wouldn’t get in until later). We heat up a plate for him, and put Andrew to bed.
11:30 pm – After hanging out on the patio for a while, everyone heads inside and hunkers down for the night.
All in all, it was as perfect of a Father’s Day as Daddy could have hoped for.

Daddy gets home from work, and Andrew is usually playing on his back on the floor in the living room while Mommy’s washing his bottles, or maybe fixing supper.
Daddy walks into the living room, and stands just out of sight of Andrew, and quietly says Andrew’s name. Andrew stretches, and turns around to see his Daddy.
Up until this point, Andrew’s legs and arms have been kicking and thrashing, but the moment he sees Daddy’s face, he becomes completely still. He stares at his Daddy for 2-3 seconds, and then a big smile slowly creeps across his face. As soon as the smile is completely across Andrew’s face, he lets out a faint, high pitched squeal, all the time with the huge smile plastered across his face.
And that… is the best part of Daddy’s day.
Andrew has a new toy. He can (kind of) stand up in it, and look around and catch things from a new angle. He’s liking it more and more each time he gets in it. More new pictures in the Hiaring Photo Album…
We opted to skip our planned trip to Clarinda this weekend due to the weather conditions. Here in Des Moines, we received about 10″ of white stuff. Of course, this is on top of rain, sleet, and freezing rain that occurred prior to the snow. It makes for a giant mess. In several locations in Des Moines, power poles were brought down, and people went without electricity. Places north of here were hit even harder. We consider ourselves lucky that we only had to go without power for about 20 minutes Sunday morning. We have a few more pictures from this storm in the Photo Gallery.
Congratulations to the South Page Rebels, and coach Vaughn Hiaring (my Pop) for winning their first postseason game tonight, defeating the Fremont Mills Knights in the opening game of district play.
Check out the picture gallery, and you’ll find a few new pictures of Andrew in there. As I add more pictures, I think I’ll start putting them in albums that correspond with the date that I upload them. It should be a little easier to pick out which pictures are new ones.
